LG TO SHOWCASE “KITCHENS AROUND THE WORLD”

LG Electronics (LG) announced the launch of an online cooking portal providing users with over 100 recipes of flagship dishes from select countries. Packed with useful features and expert cooking tips for amateur and advanced cooks alike, this site is designed as a guide for cooking enthusiasts in creating world cuisines in their own kitchens.

The site offers an innovative feature, Cook As You Are, in which visitors can request a recommendation by choosing specific options among six categories: Cultures, Occasions, Courses, Ingredients, Methods and Expertise. The user’s choices will be used to determine the right recipe recommendation from various cultures. For example, the selection of herb, snack and beginner results in a recommendation for easy-to-prepare Honey Roasted Pumpkin, a popular Korean dish. Visitors will also be able to view recipe recommendations from renowned personalities such as Guy Martin, a three-star Michelin chef from France.

In another section of the site entitled Choose Your Kitchen, consumers can experience many international dishes -- up to 100 cultural recipes -- as well as professional cooking tips and techniques from world-renowned chefs. The recipes are broken down into step-by-step details and matched with photos to make it as convenient as possible for home cooks to bring famous international dishes to their tables. The site will also offer insights on ways to maximize LG cooking appliances to improve the recipe or to make the cooking process more convenient.

“This portal will enable those interested in cooking to become global chefs in the comfort of their own kitchens,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “At LG, we believe enjoying the world’s cuisines shouldn’t be limited to just restaurants and pre-packaged frozen foods. We want to show that international dishes are not only easy to prepare, but fun as well.”

To experience LG’s new cooking portal, visit www.lg.com/cooking. The site is currently available in English and Korean but will also be offered in German and French later this month.

Developers of selected applications will benefit from promotional support through LG’s marketing presence and Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace. LG ALIGNS WITH GOVERNMENT TO PROMOTE HIGHER GREEN STANDARDS AT GREENOMICS 2010

LG Electronics, the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) joined force in Greenomics 2010 to develop a solid platform to address environmental threats and issues arising from the practical implementation of organisational eco strategy.

Greenomics 2010, held on November 8, 2010 in Dubai, was an opportunity for public and private entities to come together to determine environmental corporate responsibility for global companies conducting business in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The event was attended by over 250 high level participants including industry and thought leaders, government entities, business conglomerates, environmental specialists, blue chip companies and academia, among others.

Greenomics was born out of LG Electronics determination to ignite a positive change across all aspects of life. This year’s Greenomics focused on “clean production” in the manufacturing sector and looked to study ways to design products and manufacturing processes in harmony with natural ecological cycles. Last year, LG established a voluntary target of reducing greenhouse gases by 150,000 tons from manufacturing and 30 million tons from product use in 2020. Furthermore, LG is investing heavily in solar cell and next generation lighting as part of its 10-year business strategy.

“The Middle East and North Africa are particularly vulnerable to climate change as this is one of the world’s most water-scarce regions with a high dependency on climate-sensitive agriculture and a large share of its economic activity and population in flood-prone urban coastal zones,” said Mr. Ki-wan Kim, CEO and President of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa. “So any discussion about the environment must make this region a priority. Greenomics provides a compelling platform for change in this part of the world.”

LG INTRODUCES WORLD’S FIRST NEAR FULL HD 3D NOTEBOOK

LG Electronics (LG) announced the world’s first premium notebook offering cinematic 3D experience at near Full HD quality. To deliver an immersive 3D experience while rendering high-quality movies, games and graphics, the LG A510 features a hardware combination never before offered on a notebook: 15.6-inch Full HD 3D LED LCD display powered by Intel? Core™ i7 Processor and NVIDIA? GeForce? GT 425M graphics card with 1GB of dedicated DDR3 video memory.

“3D is increasingly becoming a common part of the home entertainment landscape so it’s against this backdrop that we’re working to make this technology better and more accessible for consumers,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “As more and more people consume content and interact via portable screens, we think this is a natural next step for business travelers, college students and small office/home office owners. And we put the entire package in a beautifully-designed chassis because we don’t think high-tech has to be a dull grey pizza box.”

The A510 ships with polarized glasses for easier portability. A set of clip-on 3D lenses are also included for regular glasses-wearers. Beyond the visual, the notebook boasts SRS TruSurround HD for the ultimate immersive audio experience for movies and games.

With much of the content in the 3D world still in development, LG equipped the notebook with TriDef software which converts 2D into 3D content on demand. Using TriDef, viewers can see all their favorite shows and movies in up-converted 3D as soon as their LG A510 is unboxed.

This high-tech workhorse also boasts a unique design that is sure to please both tech-savvy and style-conscious consumers. An attractive metallic look with unique exterior finish and subtle LED lighting around the touchpad that changes color according to the system status add a distinctive look. The LG A510 is available in two colors: blue-black and champagne gold.

The LG A510 offers additional convenience with a collection of smart features and applications. The LG Smart Pack, LG’s unique software suite for notebooks, always ensures that the LG A510 is operating at peak performance. And a LED fingerprint reader can be programmed to provide quick and easy access to the most frequently used programs and websites, while also making it easier to log in.

LG will roll out this premium notebook in Asia, South America, the Middle East and Africa starting in October 2010.

Users can transfer multimedia saved on their phones -- 720p HD videos, high-resolution photos and high-quality music files -- wirelessly to their TV or home theater system.

“This unique feature is a direct response to the growing need for technologies that empower users to share multimedia content across electronic devices,” said Mr. Seong-jin Park, Vice President of Mobile Handset R&D Center at LG Electronics Inc. “LG Optimus 7 smartphones will be at the center of a complete entertainment experience, representing LG’s leadership in mobile convergence.”

LG WINS GREEN CERTIFICATES FOR ECO-FRIENDLY GROWTH ENGINE TECHNOLOGIES

LG Electronics (LG) announced that it has received Green Certificates for its solar technology and LED lighting, two fields it has lined up as key growth engines for the future. Awarded by Korea`s Ministry of Knowledge Economy, the certificates recognize LG`s high-efficiency solar cells on a 130 micron-thick crystalline silicon wafer, and high-efficiency/high-color rendering LED FLAT lighting.

As well as being a major endorsement of LG’s electronics expertise, the Green Certificates provide official recognition of the company’s efforts to be at the forefront of green technology. Under the Korean government’s recently announced Green Certificate program, LG will now be eligible for tax benefits and state backing for its green industries. The company will also receive additional incentives to take part in R&D projects with the government.

“The Green Certificate program is a key part of the Korean government’s overall Low Carbon Green Growth strategy, making this an outstanding opportunity for us at LG,” said Dr. Woo Paik, President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Electronics. “With this Green Certificate, it is now full steam ahead for LG as we look to expand our eco-friendly businesses, led by solar modules, LED lighting and smart grids.”

The latest awards bring LG`s total number of Green Certificates to 11, the most of any consumer electronics company in Korea. In May of this year, the company won its first Green Certificates for its linear compressor technology, high efficiency parallel two evaporator cycle, and dual spray steam laundry technology.

In June, LG won six more Green Certificates for a range of energy-saving products, including a 6-motion laundry system, and a highly efficient air conditioning unit with centralized control.

LG DAZZLES BERLIN WITH 3D FACADE SHOW AT IFA 2010

LG Electronics (LG) unveiled a gigantic 3D media façade in Kulturbrauerei, the cultural heart of Berlin, to highlight LG’s upcoming smartphone, the LG Optimus One, one of a range of new smart devices under the LG Optimus Series label.

The façade was a great source of wonderment for the many people passing through the square, who were enveloped by the ever-changing 3D artwork on the nearly three-storey high screen (23m x 21m).

Beginning with a countdown on a giant hourglass and a greeting from an “Android,” LG’s huge presentation took viewers on a thrilling 3D ride that included – among other things – whales, ice skaters, giant octopi and steaming jungles. The 5-minute show concluded with the advice, “Optimize Your Life!” which will be the official tagline of the Optimus Series marketing campaign.

For the grand finale, audience members themselves became the stars. In a truly interactive spirit, all attendees who took photos of themselves with phones provided by LG had their images displayed on the media façade.

“IFA is a stunning way to introduce our new line-up to the world, at what is one of the world’s leading tradeshows for consumer electronics and home appliances,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Through the spectacular 3D media façade, we’ve really whetted people’s appetites for our new Optimus Series that we’re launching throughout the rest of the year.”

LG ANNOUNCES INTENTION TO ENTER WATER TREATMENT BUSINESS

LG Electronics (LG) announced that it will enter the water treatment market to help combat global water supply issues and to move further toward becoming a more environmentally sustainable business. LG will invest more than USD 400 million over the next decade with the goal of generating USD 7 billion in revenue by 2020, in the process becoming a top 10 global water treatment company.

Much of the investment will go toward acquiring the right technology and building up research and development in this field.

“Water affects every aspect of our lives, yet almost one billion people around the world don`t have clean drinking water and more than 2.5 billion still lack the most basic sanitation,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “LG hopes to be able to make a small but significant contribution to alleviating this global problem with its commitment to finding solutions through innovation and technology.”

LG will concentrate its R&D on developing an advanced membrane filtration system, its core technology and key component of water treatment solutions. LG will also expand its internal capabilities with the additional hiring of membrane filtration experts and process engineers. The company will also be pursuing various types of partnerships, mergers and acquisitions as part of its strategy to expand quickly.

LG will begin with industrial water treatment and expand its coverage into sewage and drinking water treatment. The company eventually plans to enter the business of water treatment engineering and procurement as well as operation and maintenance across the municipal sector.

“The global water crisis isn’t going to go away by itself – governments, citizens and corporations will all have to work closely together,” said Mr. Lee. “The water business has been growing by an annual rate of 15 percent so there’s an incentive for companies to invest in finding solutions, but beyond the business, I think this is one problem where LG’s experience and commitment to finding sustainable solutions will be a huge advantage.”

LG Electronics, Conn's Appliances to Host Free Electronics Recycling Event

Partnering with Waste Management and CBS Radio, Event Encourages Responsible Recycling.

DALLAS -- To encourage consumers to recycle electronic devices in an environmentally sound manner, LG Electronics and Waste Management Recycle America are asking Dallas-Fort Worth residents to take action and recycle their used devices at no charge in Lewisville on Saturday, Sept. 11.

Co-sponsored by Conn's Appliances, the event is part of the LG Electronics Recycling Program, which was designed to provide consumers with a convenient way to dispose of their used, unwanted, obsolete or damaged consumer electronic products. The event will be held Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Lewisville, 1251 Valley Ridge Blvd.

Together with Waste Management Recycle America and CBS Radio, LG Electronics and Conn's are encouraging consumers to responsibly recycle unused and outdated electronics products. Every family that brings in products for recycling will receive a coupon for $25 off on any LG-brand smart-energy-saving flat-screen HDTV, 42-inch class screen size or larger. Coupons, good at any of the 19 Conn's locations through out the Dallas-Fort Worth area, must be redeemed by Sept. 30. (Limit one coupon per family.)

CBS Radio's four popular local stations (1080 KRLD, 105.3 The Fan, KLUV FM and JACK FM) will promote the event, including live onsite broadcasts and appearances by the KRLD Street Team and The FAN Street Team.

"LG Electronics is taking a proactive approach to helping consumers responsibly dispose of end-of-life electronics by offering this free collection and recycling program to Dallas-area residents," said Timothy McGrady, Environmental Manager for LG Electronics USA, Inc. "At events like this one in Lewisville, we encourage consumers to dispose of unwanted electronics in an environmentally responsible manner. This is a cornerstone of LG's larger global sustainability initiative that also focuses on energy conservation, reduction of hazardous substances and responsible product designs. Life's good when it's green," he said.

David Trahan of Conn's said: "With the fall TV season, including college and pro football broadcasts, upon us, this is a great time for consumers to upgrade to a more-energy-efficient flat-screen HDTV. Responsibly disposing of old TVs and other unwanted consumer electronics products will help save energy and is generally good for the environment. Conn's joins LG in encouraging area residents to take advantage of this terrific program."

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 82 percent of the 2.25 million tons of old TVs, cell phones and computer products generated in the last two years ended up in landfills. By recycling old electronic products, useful materials – such as glass, plastic and metals – can be collected and re-used to manufacture other products.

Typically, residents would need to pay for their electronics to be properly collected and recycled, but as part of their ongoing efforts to help promote safe e-waste recycling, LG Electronics and Waste Management will be accepting any brand of electronics at this event for free (up to five items).

In addition, the companies are committed to collecting and processing these items in an environmentally sound manner.

The electronic materials received by LG will be processed at Waste Management facilities that are ISO 14001 and 9001 certified. In addition, Waste Management Recycle America is a signatory to the Basel Action Network's Manufacturers' Commitment to Responsible E-Waste Recycling as well as to the Responsible Recycling (R2) program. These actions signifies the company's agreement to conduct their electronics recycling programs transparently and in accord with rigorous environmental and worker safety standards, and to adhere to measures that prevent the export of hazardous e-waste to developing countries.

"People are seeking services to help them recycle electronic waste responsibly and economically," said Greta Calvery, community affairs manager for Waste Management. "We hope to collect as much recyclable material as possible through this free event. It is our way of demonstrating a shared commitment with the community, by providing outstanding customer service and environmental stewardship."

If residents cannot participate in this event, they are encouraged to drop-off their used electronics at a permanent facility, located at HOBI International, 7601 Ambassador Row, Dallas.

LG BRINGS TOMORROW’S TECHNOLOGY TO LIFE AT IFA

LG Electronics (LG) will unveil its latest Business Solutions technology, including a range of solutions specialized for hotels, schools and offices, along with exceptional high-definition LED monitors and 3D gaming monitors in Full HD, at IFA 2010 in Berlin.

Visitors will have the chance to experience LG’s stunning SUPER+ Resolution, a high-definition technology that provides a strikingly realistic picture in full HD resolution while also upscaling SD content to HD. In addition, LG will show off its 3D gaming monitor, W63D, which delivers more realistic 3D images in full resolution.

“We’re really excited to be highlighting our solutions at IFA again this year,” said Soon Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “Attendees will be surprised by how far LG has come in this business and our ability to deliver creative, affordable solutions to some of today’s most challenging problems.”

LG is introducing a wide selection of solutions throughout its booth, where visitors can see just how LG’s high-tech packages work in real life. Ideal for shops and billboards, the SuperSign digital signage solution offers high-performance advertising through multiple frames on a single display. The LG Network Monitor enables up to 31 users to simultaneously share a single host PC, making it perfect for schools or offices. LG Electronics is aiming to provide the best network computing solution for B2B customers and will display the E-series Network Monitor at IFA. The E-series Network Monitor is based on a state-of-the-art multi-computing solution developed by N-Computing, a strategic partner of LG Electronics. A high definition Video Conference System and a Hotel TV system offering interactive hotel TV services will also be on display at the Business Solutions booth.

Established last year to make aggressive inroads into the business market with solutions based on LG’s proven consumer devices, LG Business Solutions Company plans to use its display at IFA to spotlight how LG’s technologies can have positive effects on individual lives. By consistently increasing investment in R&D and recruiting the best talent from around the world, LG Business Solutions Company aims to double its revenue by 2014.

E10
The E10 is a perfect response for business customers looking for eco-friendly and cost-efficient solutions. Much more efficient than previous generations of CCFL-backlit screens, the E10 reduces power consumption by around 40 percent (down from approximately 42W to 23W). Better still, its intuitive control, clear picture and mega dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 all serve to make it a far more efficient tool at work.

IPS 1 and IPS6
LG will also be introducing its latest IPS monitors, which successfully blend image quality with low-power consumption. Through the marriage of IPS and LED, LG’s IPS1 and IPS6 monitors are designed to reduce eye fatigue and provide consistent color and brightness at any viewing angle.

W63D
LG’s W63D 3D gaming monitor delivers a more realistic 3D experience with more than double the resolution of regular HD monitors. The extremely high picture quality means longer periods of viewing without discomfort.

LG’s SUPER+ Resolution Technology LED Monitors
LG’s LED monitor range, including the E50VR, E60 and E80, will also be on show at IFA. Through a high contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 and LG’s SUPER+ Resolution technology – which provides a realistic picture in HD while also upscaling SD content to HD – the E50VR and E80 deliver exceptionally crisp and vivid images. The secret behind LG’s SUPER+ Resolution is the IC (Image Clear) Engine chip, which uses a Full HD-compatible single-frame algorithm to eliminate frame delay, without the need for any external memory or software.
