Augmented Reality: Pretty Cool Stuff

I keep on hearing about "augmented reality (ar)" or mixed reality and never bothered to look into it until I was forwarded a couple of clips on YouTube by Samsung and USPS. Samsung developed an application to allow you to get a visual on how their series 7 TV set would appear on your living room wall and USPS developed virtual box simulator. This stuff has some serious potential and I also found a cool BMW clip on how they could apply said concept to assist their factory mechanics. Enjoy!

Mobile Experience: Casio Pathfinder PAW-1300Y Amazon Exclusive

Wristwatch, in my opinion, has been one of the oldest gadget that enhanced people's day to day mobile experience. If you follow your horology and appreciate the intricacy and features of some of the best mechanical movements you'll really appreciate what a wrist watch can do for professionals on the go. Its quite amazing to see the complicity wristwatch designers can do with mechancial movements, ie. chronograph/tachymeter, precision, GMT, day/date calendar, perpetual calendar, diving, aviation, etc.

This article isn't about traditional mechanical watch. Its about the advancement of digital watches and what they have become. The new Casio Pathfinder series (aka Protrek in Japan and Europe) is that old calculator watch you owned on steroids. The one I found on Amazon (PAW1300Y-1VCR) is an exclusive limited edition which features a unique reverse LCD display (white on black background). This is the kind of watch I can see Batman himself wearing; it features 3 sensors to pickup data from its altimeter (height), barometer(air pressure+temp), and compass (direction). In addition, this thing is solar powered and will always be accurate due to a five band atomic radio which utilizes the atomic radio signal around the globe and updated throughout the day.

The pathfinder watches are meant for professional outdoor specialists with a big display and extra large buttons for easy access with gloves. You can pickup other variations of the PAW1300 for slightly lower price. If you have the apetite for something even bigger, check out the extra large Pathfinder PAW-1500 series!

Very little information is available for this exclusive edition; Casio's US website only has the regular PAW1300s while the Japanese site has it listed as a Protrek slim line model(PRJ-1300YJ-1JF). This forum has some good user photos.

Homemade Gameboy iPhone Case DIY Guide

Remember the cool iPhone 3G Gameboy Case and my follow-up post to a cool cat named Morgan with his homemade version using a clear case from Agent18 . Well, Morgan was nice enough to let us in on the action. He has put up an iPhone Gameboy page with instructions as well as link to Instructables.

Guess what I'll be doing this weekend?

[Thanks GeekMorgan]

Update: I've made my own iPhone 3G GameBoy case!

Macro Lens for Camera Phones (iPhone, HTC, G1)

I covered a popular story on a $9 solution from Radio Shack to take Macro photos from an iPhone as well as my favorite iPhone 3G case, Clarifi, which also enhances iPhone's Macro photo shots. USBFever.com has a similar solution for all camera phones: their Magnetic/Wide Angle Macro Lens kit ($16.99) can be used to utilizing a 0.67x wide angle lens that can be attached to any camera phone through a built-in magnet. This is perfect if your camera phone has metal around its lens. Otherwise, an included adhesive metal ring can be attached to any camera phone to help secure the Macro Lens.

MacBook Air Envelope Neoprene Envelope Sleeve

The folks at DesignerSleeves.com has a clever and cool looking neoprene case for MacBook Air owners. Driven by the popular Apple commercial, this is one of the most creative/good looking envelope case I've seen. At $39 (available at Amazon.com), its a bit steep, but nothing is better than pulling this "inter-office" envelope out and set it next to a "red" stapler.

Super Mario Power Up Energy Drink

I was strolling around inside a Fye music store today and stumbled across some classic video game themed energy drinks. First up, Super Mario Bros "Power Up" energy drink. Amongst others, I also picked up a can of the PAC-MAN "Power Up" drink. Each can actually cost me $2.99 but putting these bad boys up in my office on Monday morning and when co-workers notice it next to my POW block is going to be priceless!

Make your own iPhone Gameboy Case

Ever since we first read and posted about the iPhone 3G Gameboy case from ThatGirlsSite.com I have been drooling about it. I want it and I want it badly. It pains me not knowing where I can get one. A clever chap geekmorgan from the comment section posted his homemade solution. He used an Agent 18 Clear Case and printed out a classic GameBoy label and the results look great. I just might have to do this.
