Sole focus on Qt framework and support for HTML5 further clarifies platform strategy and enables the continuous evolution of the Symbian experience.
Espoo, Finland - Nokia announces that as of today, greater clarification and simplicity in its developer offering will empower the development community to create applications to reach users across both the Symbian and MeeGo platforms. The decision to focus on Qt as the sole application development framework will ensure that applications will continue to be compatible with future evolutions of Symbian as well as upcoming MeeGo products. In addition, Nokia announces its intent to support HTML5 for development of Web content and applications for both Symbian and MeeGo platforms. To demonstrate its commitment to the new offering, Nokia will develop its own future applications using Qt for a more consistent experience and better integration of applications and services.
Nokia is focusing on Qt as a robust, tried and tested framework that unlocks the hardware, software and service capabilities of the existing Nokia smartphone range as well as creating huge opportunities for future Symbian and MeeGo products. Nokia's introduction of Qt Quick into the Qt framework enables the more rapid creation of rich user interfaces and the most visually engaging applications. In addition, Qt's in-built support for HTML5 complements Nokia's intent to support HTML5 in Web browsers.
One benefit of this simplified approach is that planned and future improvements in Symbian will be developed in Qt and will be compatible with the existing Symbian^3 platform release. This means that Nokia's continued commitment to develop the Symbian platform will benefit not only future users of Symbian-based products, but will result in updates and upgrades for existing Symbian^3 users. The resulting change to a model of continuous evolution replaces the previous release-based model. Nokia will no longer refer to Symbian^3 or Symbian^4. The benefit to consumers will be a constant improvement in the experience of their Symbian-based Nokia products.
Rich Green, CTO of Nokia: "We're making strategic technology decisions that will accelerate our ability to offer the strongest possible opportunity for developers and the richest possible experience for consumers. For developers, it will open up a huge installed customer base for their applications. For consumers, it means a more compelling engagement with their Nokia product in terms of access to the best applications in the marketplace and a constantly improving product experience. We firmly believe that the choices we have made will not only mean significant opportunity and success for our developer partners, but for Nokia as well."
For more information about Qt application development framework including Qt Quick and HTML5 support go to qt.nokia.com/qtquick and qt.nokia.com/HTML5. Developers can start developing with Qt today at www.forum.nokia.com/Develop/Qt/.

MeeGo-[smartfon] Of nokia N9: specification
In the network more than once appeared the photographs of [smartfona] Of nokia N9 (RM-680), which works on the basis OS Of meeGo, and here about its characteristics to the present moment it was known entirely a little. According to the communication of source, the screen is executed on the technology Of super AMOLED, but in reality this is highly improbable, since the scarcity of such displays now is observed. Possibly, the announcement Of nokia N9 takes place already in the following month, but here release can follow far from immediately. But, in any event, there is no adequate information on this score as yet.
Characteristics Of nokia N9:

Velvet
Does a re-scaled UI for mobiles or PCs make a good tablet UI? We think tablets are radically different types of devices that require new and unique UIs. Velvet is a playful cloth shader concept UI for MeeGo tablets by TAT and Wind River. With full support for 3D graphics and shaders, TAT Cascades enables astonishing UIs on MeeGo, Android and other tablet OSs.
Photographs of [smartfona] Of nokia N9
Chinese resource tieba.baidu.com published the photographs of the future flag officer of the Finnish company Of nokia. As it is asserted, represented in the photographs [smartfon] is called Nokia Of n9-00 and must arrive for the change Of nokia N8, whose output is expected in September this year. On the periods of appearance N9 walk different rumors, and Chinese resource does not introduce clarity. Also kA publishes no technical characteristics relative to this model.

Vessels on the photographs, apparatus it will be executed in the form factor of lateral slider with the QWERTY- keyboard, and in the closed position it will be outwardly very similar to Nokia N8. The operating system, which evidently on the screen Of nokia N9 it is not similar to the now existing versions Of symbian and, according to unofficial reports, appears MeeGo.
In the commentaries it is indicated that the apparatus will obtain 12-[MP] camera. Dual light-emitting diode flash is visible in the photographs.

MeeGo for Maemo & Moblin application developers
Bringing developers from old platform to new
please define here how the old differs from the new. I am assuming the new platform includes using the Qt framework as the standard, but what else? What is the smooth way to move RPM -> DEB?
MeeGo for N900 and N8x0 owners
What is MeeGo in a concrete way? Is it a set of userland libraries and applications that you can run on your N900 in a chrooted environment for example?
Bring our old power users over
dual booting a "Meego flash image" on your N?x? device? What about MER?
New developers coming to MeeGo
Qt and WRT, and maybe Clutter
Distributing MeeGo software
yes, please explain how to do this in light of the current system of uploading Debian packages & promoting?
What comes after Extras?
MeeGo platform
Getting more developers involved in the MeeGo platform, and reaching out to upstream to have a critical mass of MeeGo middleware developers there
Cool stuff (hardware & software) coming out of Helsinki & Portland
Target press & new users
Building a healthy MeeGo community
Involving Intel and Nokia engineers, upstream, platform hackers, application developers and power users in the MeeGo community - covering things like outreach and events, community infrastructure (including the Technical Steering Group, working groups, council?), social dynamics & policies, and community involvement in product roadmaps, etc
Testing with MeeGo
Test development, image creation, test execution and debugging as a smooth ride along development.
The Community Development Ecosystem around MeeGo (lbt)
Building against MeeGo - the Maemo and MeeGo community OBSes
Application development and community application QA - Extras and PPAs(?)
Experimental development - MeeGo on N8x0

A group of people interested in a feature or a process gather around a round table.
A driver for the discussion presents the topic he wants to spec out or a topic assigned to him to present from the list of process and features desired.
Input is arriving from participants, and is ironed out as "user stories" , as well as leads, references tips and hints for undertaking the development.
The driver after finishing the session sets to finish the spec in terms of completeness and publish it on the wiki for peer review of the BOF participants and/or a review board that accepts features and new takes for the project.

Well and MeeGo for [smartfonov] now only is developed and its final version must leave in October. What are you expecting from Nokia’s MeeGo phone in order for it to become successful?
A lot of hopes are resting on MeeGo phone to be instrumental in Nokia’s reclamation of the high end smartphone arena.
There’s the N8, and other rumoured Symbian^3 devices which are awesome in their own right. But some would argue that they are high-mid and not completely and convincingly all high end.

It seems for the best of the very best Nokia will have to offer, the responsibility lies of MeeGo Phone.
What are you expecting from the Nokia MeeGo Phone in order for it to become successful?
I could mention precise hardware specifications/expectations from the OS, but I’ll leave that for the comments. Is there anything in particular that MeeGo phone cannot do without?
I’ll blanket statement with,
“MeeGo phone must be exceptional. Anything other than being an over achiever is a ‘fail’. There isn’t any room for compromises any more now that all eyes are on Nokia to deliver a class leading flagship. One that deserves the flagship name in not just being the best out of your own portfolio but sets the bar for your competition. There can’t be any penny pinching, no leaving out of features to place into a future handset. It must at the very least, be as good as the best currently out there and then some. Don’t just be a jack of all trades master of none, but similarly, you can’t do with only having one strong facet. MeeGo phone should be Nokia’s opportunity to show the rest of the world exactly everything their capable of, strengthen their brand image and justify their position as the number one phone manufacturer in the world”
If MeeGo phone doesn’t deliver to expectations, it’s unfortunately too late for any changes to happen, what with Nokia World 2010 just over a month to go.
Even if Nokia’s MeeGo phone turns out to be amazing, some may still find other excuses as to why it would suck, such as the ecosystem. That in itself would be another post. (As is the possibility of Nokia’s own MeeGo phone being outclassed by another manufacturer)
