Yahoo! Finance Goes iPhone App

Yahoo! Finance has long been my favorite website to check in on the stock market. I've been using this site for the past 10 years as I am very familiar with its ins and outs. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted with a prompt this evening indicating a new iPhone app for free. Already, the iPhone default stock quote app is powered by Yahoo. I've always felt it was a bit lite despite the recent updates of offering news and other data; as a work around I've been hitting up Yahoo's Mobile sites to get my finance news needs.

This iPhone app is pretty cool; Yahoo has done a great job providing all the top features to the small screen. The application is essentially broken down by four tabs which covers its major functions: Market News, Quotes, Research Tools and Tech Tickers (multimedia news). I wish the app has a sign-in feature which would download my desktop preference to the small screen (ie. the stocks I am following, etc...). All together, this is a pretty cool little utility app that I'll be using frequently.

Yahoo Mobile - Weather

Yahoo OneSearch aka Mobile Search is now offering new and improved weather forecast. Not surprised here since they powered iPhone's Weather Widget. Now you can get the same forecast on most phones over browser. I normally bookmark Google's mobile search result for NY 10011 zone, but will test this out on my Treo 680 or N95-3 next time I have the SIM card in there.

BTW - Yahoo GO! Application now includes Olympic 2008 updates, including medal counts.

Yahoo's Popular Mobile Searches

Yahoo's actively trying to get people to pay attention to their mobile search products. On their homepage today, they shared the popular searches for actors on mobile. Click through for more results.

Yahoo Mobile Working on Voice Search App?

A while ago, I mentioned that I was invited to participate in Yahoo's Mobile Search Panel. Well, tonight, I was asked by Yahoo Mobile team to participate in a survey with questions suggesting they may be working on a voice-based search application. Questions included if I'd be interested in downloading such mobile app.? or if I'd be concerned of privacy due to the fact that I have to speak out my search queries.

On a side note, did you realize that 411 is the oldest, search (and Mobile/Voice search) that is still lucrative and highly profitable to this date. Largely because majority (80%+) of the population do not know how much it actually cost per call.

Yahoo GO 3.0 Beta Released

Got an email from Yahoo! today. Annoucing the beta version of Yahoo! GO 3.0. It is compatile with iPhone, WM5/6 and Nokia S60 devices. Yahoo! GO is composed of an array of web services designed for your handheld device (Maps, Mail, Messenger, etc.). In addition, there are some 3rd party mobile widgets available for download (MTV News, eBay, etc.) I'll give it a go and report back shortly. (Note the Nokia N95 8GB used in the photo... sweet!)

Yahoo Mobile Search Panel Invite

These days, the buzz in mobile is nothing new. I can already see industry tradeshows (Adweek, SES, etc.) using mobile as the major buzz word for the next couple of years. In a race that is as intense as the race to the moon, the search giants are trying to get as much leverage as they can to take pole position.

Yahoo GO! recently invited me to participate in a survey which would qualify me to become their mobile search panel. Evidently, being "their panel" gives me an opportunity to be heard. In translation, I'll help them refine their mobile offering for free. Considering my nature in exploring all things mobile, I graciously signed up for the survey. 15 minutes later, I was told that I should expect something in the inbox shortly for more instructions.

As it stands, most of the Google mobile products are reigning supreme. I've not used Yahoo products since the early days (circa 2004-05). I hope these initiatives will help the overall mobile community to grow as a whole.

I will provide more updates later (assuming I am allowed to do so). Of course, if you don't hear from me, it could also mean that I am not allowed to disclose.

Yahoo Gets Aggressive with Mobile Site

I got an email this afternoon from Yahoo informing me about its new mobile web services. This email is a cool attempt to reach out to its customer base to remind them about all of Yahoo's web services are now even better served on the mobile devices. Yahoo was one of the leaders in making their contents available via mobile. It looks like this update is taking whats good and make it even better.

The race for mobile dominance is on, this week, Google has made its "Docs" online office application available (view only) for mobile interface, AOL AIM is going further in Mobile, and Mapquest is offering a new mobile interface.
