3G, triple-network convergence to dominate competition in China telecom market, says Digitimes Research

Fixed-line and mobile telecom carriers in China have been reshuffled into three main ones, China Mobile Communications, China United Telecommunications and China Telecom, with 3G mobile communication being their present focus of business expansion and competition, according to Digitimes Research.

In addition, the China government's boosting convergence of telecom, Internet and TV broadcast networks is giving opportunities for the three telecom carriers to step into operation of digital video/audio services to compete and/or cooperate with TV broadcasters, and the latter may offer new services beyond their existing business operation, Digitimes Research said.
