HTC's share of the Taiwan handset market in July reached a historical high at 4.9% by volume versus Apple's 2.3%, according to sources from Taiwan's handset distribution channel.
HTC has successfully taken advantage of Apple's product transition to strengthen its position in the Taiwan smartphone segment, the sources said, adding that with all three major service providers expected to distribute the iPhone 4 beginning in September, Apple should once again gain ground in the coming months.
Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far Eastone Telecommunications will each receive shipments of about 5,000 iPhone 4 initially, according to sources from the carriers. Since the three companies opened up pre-order registration on August 23, 2010, applications for the new Apple device on each of their websites have surpassed 10,000 subscribers, the sources revealed.
