Windows Phone 7 arriving early? LG C900 prepped for September

Though Windows Phone 7 has been pegged for an October arrival in Europe and November release in the US for a while, it seems our American cousins could get their hands on it a little earlier. LG’s Bluetooth SIG filing for the LG C900 has the Windows Phone 7 QWERTY slider slated for a September 28 release. But does that really mean Windows Phone 7 is breaking cover early?

We saw another leaked LG Windows Phone 7 device earlier this week so we know it’s working hard on its first phones to pack the new Microsoft OS. But spying the September date in the Bluetooth SIG document doesn’t necessarily mean that LG (and AT&T which will carry the phone in the US) is going to jump the gun.

As we reported yesterday, Microsoft isn’t opening the doors of the Windows Phone Marketplace for apps submissions until the first week in October. Microsoft has also strongly suggested in the past that the Windows Phone 7 release date in Europe will be ahead of the US launch. An LG Windows Phone 7 device arriving in late September would turn that on its head.

While it’s definitely worth considering the idea that LG could be first out of the gate with a Windows Phone 7 handset, the September date in the Bluetooth SIG filing is most likely a red herring. Steve Ballmer is headed to France on October 7 to talk Windows Phone 7 and Microsoft is certain to be keeping a tight grip on the launch of the new OS.

A more likely explantation is that the LG C900 will be ready for launch by the end of September (just as the HTC Windows Phone 7 and Samsung Windows Phone 7 handsets are sure to be) but that it won’t actually emerge until October in a European incarnation and November for the US.

Still, we’re excited to see what LG has cooked up for its finalised Windows Phone 7 devices after we got our hands on the LG Windows Phone 7 prototype. If it does want to slip a new phone out in September, well, we won’t be complaining…
