The room was packed to the limit when Mobile Monday Malmö took place on last Monday. A lot of attendees were eager to listen to Troed Sångberg from Sony Ericsson, on his thoughts on the Future of Openness (in Mobile). The other speakers also created a lot of interest. Per Blysa and Himzo Music from Cybercom talked about a developer’s perspective on Android. Mårten Eneroth from Crunchfish talked about a designer’s perspective on app design and how to bring your app to the different app markets.
Openness in focus
The presentations all came to touch upon openness in various ways. Troed Sångberg talked about the changes in the mobile industry, changes in mindsets of people, and changes in the rate of changes. We are moving into a participatory culture, into a right brain society, where creativity, emotions and innovations are given a lot of room, Troed Sångberg said. Many attendees were very interested in how Sony Ericsson is working with openness and the Android platform.
− It is obvious that some creatives want Sony Ericsson to move faster, Troed Sångberg said, but on the other hand I think that can be seen as something positive as well. It also means that no matter how fast we work there are still people that wants more. I think that is a nice position to be in for a big company like us, and we should do our best to meet those expectations.
Developing for Android takes less time
Per Blysa and Himzo Music from Cybercom emphasised the simplicity in Android development in their presentation, which also included a hands on perspective on Android development. Blysa and Music also presented some interesting results, putting Android in top as the most resource efficient platform to work on as a developer. As for key success factors, Blysa and Music stated that connectivity and user experience are the two most important things to consider when developing an app.
– You should always remember to make you applications look and feel good, Himzo Music said. If you don’t do that, nobody will bother even if you have lots of nice functionality.
A successful event
The snacks and beers were popular, as lots of attendees used the event to meet new interesting people.
− It’s a wonderful creative environment here, Troed Sångberg said. It’s so nice to see how many people are interested in innovations in mobile platforms.
The organisers were also pleased with the outcome, as it was one of the most popular Mobile Monday events in Malmö and Copenhagen so far.
− It was actually a record number of attendees, said Hanna Ståhl, one of the organisers from Frontal.dk. We had 78 people here today, which is really impressive for us. I think the event included a good mix of abstract topics down to more concrete hints and tips.
The next Mobile Monday events will be in Copenhagen on the 4th of October, and in Malmö on 1st of November.
