China-based Huawei Technologies has successfully demonstrated an LTE FDD network operating at speeds up to 50Mbps on a Shanghai Maglev train traveling at about 430km/h.
Huawei has set up 12 LTE FDD base stations along a 30.5-kilometer stretch of the Shanghai Maglev track, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
In addition, Huawei has set up two LTE trial networks in the Shanghai area, one an TD-LTE network covering the site of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo in cooperation with China Mobile Communications, and the other a Single RAN (radio access network) multi-standard network supporting GSM, HSPA, HSPA+ and LTE, the company pointed out.
Huawei has obtained orders for base station equipment used to set up 60 LTE networks around the world, with 14 already under commercial operation, the company indicated, adding it plans to offer dual-mode, TD-LTE/LTE FDD and TD-LTE/WiMAX, network interface cards and dual-mode handsets in the first and second halves of 2011.
