LG WINS GREEN CERTIFICATES FOR ECO-FRIENDLY GROWTH ENGINE TECHNOLOGIES

LG Electronics (LG) announced that it has received Green Certificates for its solar technology and LED lighting, two fields it has lined up as key growth engines for the future. Awarded by Korea`s Ministry of Knowledge Economy, the certificates recognize LG`s high-efficiency solar cells on a 130 micron-thick crystalline silicon wafer, and high-efficiency/high-color rendering LED FLAT lighting.

As well as being a major endorsement of LG’s electronics expertise, the Green Certificates provide official recognition of the company’s efforts to be at the forefront of green technology. Under the Korean government’s recently announced Green Certificate program, LG will now be eligible for tax benefits and state backing for its green industries. The company will also receive additional incentives to take part in R&D projects with the government.

“The Green Certificate program is a key part of the Korean government’s overall Low Carbon Green Growth strategy, making this an outstanding opportunity for us at LG,” said Dr. Woo Paik, President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Electronics. “With this Green Certificate, it is now full steam ahead for LG as we look to expand our eco-friendly businesses, led by solar modules, LED lighting and smart grids.”

The latest awards bring LG`s total number of Green Certificates to 11, the most of any consumer electronics company in Korea. In May of this year, the company won its first Green Certificates for its linear compressor technology, high efficiency parallel two evaporator cycle, and dual spray steam laundry technology.

In June, LG won six more Green Certificates for a range of energy-saving products, including a 6-motion laundry system, and a highly efficient air conditioning unit with centralized control.
